Memorial service for first Greek serviceman to fall during WWII
The annual memorial service for the first Greek serviceman to fall during WWII was held on Sunday in the village of Pialia, in the central prefecture of Trikala, Greece.
The service was held in the village’s main square in memory of Private Vassilios Tsiavaliaris, after a con-celebratory Divine Liturgy in the Church of Saint George the Great Martyr.
Vassilios Tsiavaliaris was hit by mortar fire from invading Italian forces while defending a fortified height on the Greek-Albanian border, in the early morning hours of October 28, 1940.
