Kimolos: The Feast Day of Panagia Odigitria
In the beautiful church of Panagia Odigitria on Kimolos, which was consecrated on 15 July 1873 by the late Archbishop Alexandros Lykourgos of Syros, a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Tuesday morning, 21 November 2023, officiated by the local Shepherd, His Eminence Metropolitan Dorotheos II, with the liturgical participation of the Hierarchical Commissioner of Kimolos and the Parish Priest of the Holy Church, Protopresbyter Father Dimitrios Ventouris, and the Deputy Hierarchical Commissioner of Milos, Archimandrite Father Nektarios Sorros, and with the presence of the Mayor and Municipal Councillors, the port authority of Kimolos, representatives of the local Authorities, teachers and students of all the schools of Kimolos, and a multitude of faithful believers.
In his address, His Eminence Metropolitan Dorotheos II, taking note from the verse of the Apolytikion of the day “Let us, then, with a great voice cry aloud to her”, called the faithful to thank the Panagia, Mother of God with a great voice for what she offered to the Church and humanity, “because she made us all worthy to celebrate the feast day of her Presentation into the Temple, today, for all that she gives us in our lives, because she embraces us as her children and becomes a protection and a guide for all of us”.
Finally, he thanked and congratulated the Parish Priest of the Church and Hierarchical Commissioner of Kimolos for the pastoral work he offers to the small Ecclesiastical Community of Kimolos, and following this His Eminence Metropolitan Dorotheos offered to the students paternal advice and wished everyone well for the upcoming Christmas holidays.
