Inauguration of the renovated Cultural Centre of the Patriarchate of Alexandria in Athens
In the presence of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Ms. Katerina Sakellaropoulou, and His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece, the Inauguration ceremony for the renovated Cultural Centre of the Patriarchate of Alexandria in Kypseli, in Athens, took place on Monday, 4 November 2024.
His Beatitude Pope and Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria and All-Africa received and welcomed the guests, while he performed the consecration service of the Inauguration.
His Eminence Metropolitan George of Guinea, representative of the Patriarch of Alexandria in Athens, referred to the history of the building, as well as the history of maintenance and renovation, while he particularly thanked the donors and sponsors who contributed to the implementation of the project.
Then, a greeting was addressed by Mr. Giorgos Agouridis, member and legal advisor of the Board of Directors of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, and Mr. Athanasios and Ms. Marina Martinos, who supported this effort from the very beginning.
After the initial addresses, an audio-visual presentation took place referring to the important work carried out in Africa by Patriarch Theodoros II. Immediately afterwards, the Patriarch, clearly moved, expressed his gratitude to the benefactors and referred to the new structures, but also to the difficulties they face in Africa.
The ceremony was also attended by Metropolitans of the Church of Greece and abroad, Ministers, Ambassadors, representatives of the Armed Forces, clergy and lay people. His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens was accompanied by the Protosyncellus of the Archdiocese, Archimandrite Varnavas Theoharis, and the Archdeacon Father Dimitrios Fokianos.
