Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at the Holy Monastery of St John in Perth
On the Sixth Sunday of Matthew, His Grace Bishop Elpidios of Kyanea officiated at the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at the Holy Monastery of Saint John in Forrestfield, WA.
The service took place in the monastery’s Katholikon (main church) dedicated to the Nativity of St John the Baptist.
In his sermon, His Grace outlined the Gospel pericope drawing everyone’s attention on the words of Christ towards the Scribes, “Why do you think evil in your hearts”. His Grace reminded all that these fearsome words prove the divinity of Jesus Christ and as God, He not only knows what is hidden in our hearts but also everything in great detail that is occurring now and in the most distant future. Therefore it is impossible to hide from the omniscient and all powerful God.
At the conclusion of the service His Grace presented the Abbot of the Holy Monastery, the Very Rev. Archimandrite Makarios Souris, a mini photo album of his recent ordinations that were conducted by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia during His recent visit to Perth. The album also includes the two sermons delivered by His Eminence at each ordination towards the newly ordained Abbot.
Finally His Grace Bishop Elpidios reminded the faithful that on this day the Church also celebrate the feast day of Saint Athinagoras the Apologist and for this reason the Archdiocesan District of Perth would like to wish our beloved Archdeacon Athinagoras Karakonstantakis many years of good heath and strength to continue in serving the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia.
