Greek Seismologist predicts major earthquakes in the coming months
Greek seismologist Gerasimos Papadopoulos has warned that significant earthquakes are likely in the near future, following a period of seismic calm in 2024.
In a social media post, Papadopoulos pointed out that this year has seen just nine earthquakes of magnitude 7 or greater, well below the typical annual range of 14 to 18.
“While the average is 14 to 18 large earthquakes each year, we’ve had only 9 in 2024,” he said. “Major earthquakes are coming.”
He described earthquakes as a “complex natural phenomenon” and stressed their unpredictability, adding, “They are a prime example of nature’s complexity.”
