Greek PM Mitsotakis: Greece, Egypt, and Cyprus collaborating for prosperity, security, and stability

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, after the conclusion of the 10th Trilateral Summit between Greece, Egypt, and Cyprus, described the cooperation of the three countries in the wider region as durable and excellent amidst multiple crises and challenges at regional and international levels.Mitsotakis noted that in Cairo the three countries confirmed that once again they will continue to work consistently to further strengthen this cooperation in order to achieve prosperity, security, and stability in the wider region.

At the same time, he said that there will be a wide range of joint activities such as investment and cultural exchanges, defence and port work. Mitsotakis welcomed the high participation in the business forum, which was held in parallel with the work of the trilateral summit. He also spoke of the commitment of all three states to strengthen their strategic cooperation in the energy sector for the benefit of national and European priorities. He also stressed that the European industry is moving faster in carbonization, underlining that there can be much more substantial cooperation with Egypt “to develop joint initiatives that will be mutually beneficial.”

Regarding Cyprus, Mitsotakis stressed that “Athens and Nicosia are jointly approaching all the major regional challenges of the region.” On the Cyprus issue, he said that “we reaffirmed our full support for the efforts of the Republic of Cyprus to find a just and viable solution, always in the framework of the UN Security Council resolutions.”

Mitsotakis said that the three leaders also discussed the developments in Syria and reaffirmed their commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of a united Syria and their commitment to an inclusive process. He stressed that they also discussed Egypt’s central and crucial role in the effort to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza. On developments in Libya, he said that it is imperative to revive the peace process. He also noted that Cyprus and Greece have taken the lead in signing a comprehensive agreement on the EU-Egypt Strategic Partnership.
