Greece experiences tenth consecutive day of heatwave

Greece experienced its tenth consecutive day of a heatwave on Wednesday, according to the Meteo weather service of the National Observatory of Athens.

The highest temperature on Wednesday was recorded in Oleni, Ilia, in the Peloponnese, at 42.2°C. This was followed by Skala, Messinia, also in the Peloponnese, at 42.0°C, and Gavalou, in Aetolia-Acarnania, at 41.7°C, according to Meteo’s network of automatic weather stations.

Temperatures exceeded 37°C in 232 of the 510 currently active stations, while the average maximum temperature was 35.7°C, the highest value in the ten-day period.

The Meteo weather service reports that very high temperatures are also expected on Thursday.
