Greece confirms 100,421 new coronavirus cases for August 1-7, 300 deaths
Greece confirmed 100,421 new coronavirus cases in the week of August 1-7, the National Public Health Organization (EODY) said in its weekly statistics report on Tuesday.
This is equivalent to 9,626 coronavirus cases per 1 mln people during that week (weekly change: -19%), with 21% of the weekly new infections being reinfections. All confirmed infections since the pandemic began are 4,577,675.
There are also 314 deaths from Covid-19 registered in the August 1-7 week, or 30 deaths per 1 mln people (weekly change: -18%), bringing the total of pandemic victims since the pandemic began to 31,722. Of the people who died, 95.9% had an underlying condition and/or were aged 70 or above.
A total of 120 hospital patients were on ventilators on August 7. Their median age is 70 years and 95.0 pct has an underlying condition and/or is aged 70 or over.
In addition, 2,343 Covid-19 patients were admitted to hospital during the week of August 1-7 (335 patients on a weekly average, and -8% compared to the previous week), while the average number of Covid-19 patients discharged from hospitals for the same week was 2,195.
