Great Vespers Service for the Feast of the Annunciation in Perth
The Great Vespers Service for the Feast of the Annunciation of the Holy Theotokos was celebrated at the Church of Evangelismos on Thursday the 24th of March and was presided by His Grace Bishop Elpidios of Kyanea.
The faithful from all parishes attended the Vespers Service for the Great Feast of the Annunciation which marks the fountainhead of our salvation.
When addressing the faithful, His Grace Bishop Elpidios stated how the Theotokos has an important position in the life of the Church, precisely because she was the sacred person whom gave human nature to Jesus Christ. Thus the person of the Theotokos is associated very closely with the Person of Christ. For this reason, Theotokology is very closely associated with Christology. In other words, when we speak of Christ we cannot ignore her who gave Him flesh. And when we speak of the Virgin Mary, we simultaneously refer to Christ, because from Him she draws Grace and value.
In addition His Grace briefly made reference to the three Old Testament passages read at the Vespers Service and stated how they all make indirect reference to the Mother of God. For many times certain events in the Old Testament come to prefigure future events in the New Testament and for this reason the New Testament is required to interpret and understand the Old Testament.
At the conclusion of the service His Grace distributed the artoklasia to the faithful and wished everyone many years.
