Gerontissa Alexia – The Abbess of the Monastery of Panagia Eikosifoinissa falls asleep in the Lord

The Abbess of the Holy Monastery of Panagia Eikosifoinissa, Gerontissa Alexia, who was suffering from coronavirus, fell asleep in the early morning hours of Thursday, January 27, 2022. Abbess Alexia was old and had many underlying diseases, as a result of which she lost the battle with the coronavirus.

The Metropolis of Drama stated:

The Holy Metropolis of Drama, with the deepest sorrow, announces the falling asleep of the abbess of the Holy Patriarchal and Stavropegian Monastery of the Most Holy Theotokos Gerontissa Alexia, who passed away in Thessaloniki after her battle with lung disease and covid-19 disease.

Because the Monastery does not accept pilgrims, and due to the fact that nearly all of the sister-hood are suffering from the disease of covid 19, the funeral service will be streamed over camera.

We ask all the faithful to please pray for the repose of Gerontissa Alexia’s soul, to be found in the land of the living amongst the righteous from all ages.
