Feast Day of the Church of Saint Paul in Side
On July 12, the celebration for the memory of the Chief Apostles Peter and Paul was held in the newly erected Church of the Apostle Paul in Side (Manavgat) according to the Julian calendar. This Church was built and consecrated last year, thanks to the financial support of the Vatopedi Monastery of Mount Athos and the Society of Mediterranean Studies of Athens, after approval by the local authorities.
On the eve of the feast day, His Eminence Metropolitan Job of Pisidia, with the participation of the members of the parish, conducted the holy vigil. On the main day of the feast, being joined by the His Grace Bishop Ambrosios of Evdokiada and the clergy of the metropolitan district, His Eminence Metropolitan Job presided over the festive Divine Liturgy, which was attended by choir members and faithful believers who had arrived from Antalya and Alanya.
In his homily, His Eminence Metropolitan Job recalled the passage of the Apostle Paul from Pisidia and Pamphylia, where he made the decision to preach the Gospel to the Nations. He also underlined that our Church continues the missionary work of the Chief Apostles through the centuries until today: “We continue the same preaching without distinction of race or nationality, convinced of the universal dimension of the evangelical message. Following the apostolic tradition, we also continuously convey the same message of salvation in Christ”.
After the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, the parish served a meal to all the those who came to celebrate the feast day. In the afternoon, His Eminence Metropolitan Job of Pisidia participated in a meeting of the clergy of the Holy Metropolis, where proposals for the catechesis of children and young people as well as other pastoral issues were discussed.
