Feast Day of Saint Nektarios in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo
Saint Nektarios, the Saint of Patience, was celebrated in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. In all the Holy Churches of the Holy Metropolis of Kinshasa, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Saturday, 9 November 2024, on the feast day of Saint Nektarios, Bishop of Pentapolis, and miracleworker.
In addition, the Holy Metropolis, in order to show the figure of the newly-revealed Saint Nektarios in a more deeper way, especially for the young people appreciate this Great Saint of the 20th Century, greatly celebrated the memory of the Saint on Sunday at the Holy Monastery of Saint Athanasios the Athonite (School of Theology).
The Feast began with a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, after which a Trisagion Memorial Service was chanted for the bearer of the same title as Saint Nektarios, The Late Metropolitan Ignatius of Pentapolis. Afterwards, breakfast was offered to all who came for the event, and was followed by a school event in the hall of the Theological School. The students chanted hymns from the Saint’s Feast Day Service, his life was briefly read and then the well-known film about the life of the Saint was shown in French. The film was produced by View Master Films and Simeon Entertainment, directed by Ms. Popovic, supported by the Holy Monastery of Vatopedi, the Institute of Saint Maximus the Greek and Eurogroup Ltd, with the support of the Holy Metropolis of Mesogaia and Lavreotiki.
After the end of the screening of the Movie, Metropolitan Theodosios of Kinshasa, closed the event by making special reference to the virtue of patience, which more than any other exalted the Saint in the eyes of God and endowed him with many gifts. The Metropolitan urged all those present to imitate the patience of the Saint and to follow in his footsteps. As a blessing, he distributed small icons of Saint Nektarios to everyone, while food was offered to all who were in attendance.
