The Holy Archdiocese of Australia wishes to inform its faithful and the wider public about the reappearance of fraudulent email accounts, as well as fake profiles/pages on the social media platform Facebook, which arbitrarily and unlawfully use the name, title, and even photos taken from the internet of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia.
Regarding social media, it is clarified that His Eminence Archbishop Makarios maintains only one official account on Instagram (www.instagram.com/archbishop_makarios/) and does not have an account on Facebook. Therefore, Facebook users are urged to ignore any profiles or pages that claim to represent the Archbishop of Australia and to refrain from any interaction with them, especially from providing personal information.
Additionally, individuals who receive emails from accounts bearing the name and title of His Eminence are advised to carefully assess the content of such messages and verify the sender’s email address. If deemed necessary, they may contact the offices of the Holy Archdiocese by phone for further verification.
The appropriate actions are being taken with the relevant authorities regarding the matter of fake electronic accounts using the identity of Archbishop Makarios of Australia.
