End of School Year Christmas Celebration at the Reservoir School of “Aetolian College”
With songs, poems, plays and dance, the students of the Reservoir School of the Greek College of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia “Aetolian College”, bid farewell to this academic year.
Specifically, on Saturday, 10 December 2022, The “Aetolian College” Greek School at the Parish of the Transfiguration of the Saviour, in the suburb of Reservoir, Melbourne, organised the annual celebration for the end of this year. The parents and grandparents were at the School shortly after 10 in the morning, to watch the impressive celebration, but also to show their support for their children and grandchildren. The students had properly prepared for their celebration, which they had been looking forward to for weeks.
The event was opened with a morning prayer and the Apolytikion Hymn of the Transfiguration of the Saviour by the Parish Priest, Fr. George Fragos, together with all the students.
The celebration was rich in music and included songs dedicated to Greece, as well as Christmas songs. The students also showed their acting skills, presenting a Christmas play, dedicated to the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Under the guidance of the School’s dance teacher, Mr. Yiannis Pilalidis, younger and older students impressed the guests with the dances they danced, full of pride.
The Coordinator of the Reservoir Greek School, Ms. Loukia Andreou, after thanking the parents for the support and help they offered during this year, emphasised that “behind the students’ success are their supportive families”. She also made a touching tribute to the history of the Greek school at the Parish of the Transfiguration of the Saviour, which began to operate in the 1970s.
The Committee of the Greek College of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia “Aetolian College” was represented by Ms. Natasa Spanou, who expressed her gratitude to the teaching staff who work tirelessly to preserve the Greek language. At the same time, she thanked the parents who support the study of the Greek Language, while emphasising that it is important to have the support of the grandparents so that the language of our ancestors remains alive in far-away Melbourne. Finally, she congratulated the students who, after a tiring week at their public schools, choose to spend Saturday at the Greek school learning Greek.
