Eighteen locations in Greece register temperatures exceeding 40C on midday Thursday
Unseasonably high temperatures were recorded midday on Thursday in Thessaly (central Greece) and the eastern Central Greece region (further south).
The National Observatory of Athens/meteo.gr network recorded 18 locations with temperatures above 40C (104F), with the highest one registering at Lefkochori in Fthiotis prefecture, at 42.1C (107.78F).
Kopaida, Platanoulia in Larissa, Livadia, Agia Triada also in Fthiotis, Larissa, Psachna on Evia, and Amfissa recorded temperatures ranging from 41.6C to 40.7C.
In Eastern Macedonia and in Thrace, temperatures were lower than the rest of the country because of cold air fronts, clouds, and rain in those regions.
