Ecumenical Patriarch to Imbrians: Resurrection is our very survival as a community
In a joyful, but also strongly emotionally charged atmosphere, the Glorious Resurrection of the Lord was celebrated in the Aegean island of Imbros.
His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew presided at midnight on Great and Holy Saturday of the Resurrection Service in the courtyard of the Holy Church of Saint George, in his village, Agioi Theodorou, surrounded by His Eminence Metropolitan Kyrillos of Imbros and Tenedos, His Eminence Metropolitan Kyrillos of Moschonisia and His Eminence Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Myra, as well as from the clergy of the Patriarchal Court who accompany him. In his Address, immediately afterwards, His All-Holiness addressed the countrymen of Imbros, especially the youth, urging everyone to maintain their unwavering faith in the Resurrection of the Lord.
“We Imbrians know well what the cross means and how it carries the Resurrection”, emphasised the Ecumenical Patriarch, who did not fail to mention the ongoing war in Ukraine, the recent deadly earthquakes that hit Turkey and Syria, as well as the many victims from the train accident of Tempe in Greece, addressing a special message to the relatives and friends of the victims.
The Resurrection Service was attended by Ms. Georgia Sultanopoulou, Consul General of Greece in Constantinople, with her husband, Ambassador Mr. Ioannis Raptakis, Archons of the Great Church of Christ, as well as believers from Imbros and abroad .
Subsequently, His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew presided over the Resurrection Divine Liturgy, in which he was joined by the above mentioned Hierarchs in the co-celebration. .
