Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew on Archbishop Anastasios of Albania: “May God help him and restore his health”
His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew also highlighted the challenging days for the Church, given the difficult condition of His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios of Albania, who is currently hospitalised in Athens.
“We express our gratitude to the Greek authorities for swiftly transferring him from Tirana to Athens, once again demonstrating their respect and appreciation for him and the Church as a whole.
May God restore his health and allow him to continue his fruitful pastoral ministry, which has spanned nearly thirty years in Albania.”
Archbishop of Albania’s medical state is deemed critical
The health condition of His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios of Tirana and All Albania is deemed critical by his attending physicians.
According to the latest announcement from Evangelismos Hospital, the health condition of Archbishop Anastasios of Albania is assessed as critical by the attending physicians.
The deterioration of Anastasios’s health had been known for some time.
Since 30 December, Archbishop Anastasios had been hospitalised in a Tirana hospital due to a viral infection. His health condition deteriorated, resulting in gastrorrhagia, making it necessary to transfer him to Evangelismos Hospital.
The air evacuation was carried out using a C-27 aircraft of the Hellenic Air Force. The Archbishop was accompanied by a doctor and two rescuers from the National Emergency Aid Centre’s Flying Health Personnel Team.
The aircraft landed at the Elefsina military airport at 19:34 on Thursday night, and the Archbishop was immediately transferred to Evangelismos Hospital by an ambulance unit.
