Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew arrives in Bulgaria

His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew arrived on Saturday evening, 29 June 2024, in Sofia, Bulgaria, for today’s election and enthronement of the new Patriarch of Bulgaria.

His All-Holiness, who is accompanied by hierarchs of the Ecumenical Throne, was welcomed at the airport by His Eminence Metropolitan Grigorios of Vratsi, clergy of the Church of Bulgaria and the ambassadors of Greece and Turkey in Bulgaria.

About a month ago, the Custodian of the Throne of the Church of Bulgaria, Metropolitan Grigorios of Vratsi (who is also a candidate), on behalf of the entire Holy Church of Bulgaria, invited the Ecumenical Patriarch to attend the election and enthronement of the new Primate of the Church of Bulgaria, scheduled for today, Sunday, June 30, 2024.
