Doctors begin awakening process for Archbishop Anastasios of Albania

Doctors at the Evangelismos Hospital in Athens have initiated the process of awakening His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios of Albania, according to reports from skai.gr. This procedure is highly complex and may take several days to complete.

The Archbishop remains in extremely critical condition under close monitoring by a medical team led by Professor Anastasia Kotanidou. Last Friday, the 95-year-old hierarch underwent emergency surgery to address a severe bleeding episode.

Archbishop Anastasios was urgently transferred to Athens from Tirana following a rapid deterioration in his health. He had been hospitalised in Tirana since 30 December 2024 due to a viral infection. Complications arose, including a gastrointestinal hemorrhage, which necessitated his transfer to Evangelismos Hospital for advanced care.

The Archbishop’s condition continues to draw significant attention, with prayers and support pouring in from across the Orthodox world and beyond. His health remains a matter of great concern as the medical team works tirelessly to stabilise him.
