Delegation from the Local Government of Crete visit the Archbishop of Australia
A ceremonial visit was made on Tuesday, May 17, by representatives from the local government of Crete to His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia at the Archdiocesan Offices in Sydney, Australia.
More specifically, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios was visited by the Deputy Regional Governor of Crete, Mrs. Maria Lioni, the Regional Councilor in the field of Hellenes Abroad, Mr. Konstantinos Fasoulakis, the Mayor of Malevizi Mr. Menelaos Bokeas, the Secretary of the Regional Council Mrs. Georgia Milaki, the Regional Councilors Mr. Kostas Dandoulakis and Nikos Manousakis, the Deputy Director of the Historical Museum of Crete Mr. Agisilaos Kaloutsakis, and the screenwriter of the documentary “Krousonas: In the footsteps of Captain Satan”, Mrs. Katerina Bikaki.
During the meeting, His Eminence had the opportunity to introduce to the visitors from his birthplace the programs and activities of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, while also answering questions of the representatives of Crete regarding the life and course of the Greek Diaspora, the Cretan Associations, the Church, education and the relationship of the Archdiocese with the local authorities.
His Eminence Archbishop Makarios hosted a formal dinner in honour of the special guests, during which he awarded with the cross of Apostle Andrew of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia the Deputy Regional Governor of Crete Mrs. Maria Lioni, the Counselor of the Region of Crete for Diaspora issues Mr. Konstantinos Fasoulakisand the Mayor of Malevizi Mr. Menelaos Bokeas.
During his speech, His Eminence asked those present to convey his prayers, wishes and love to the newly elected and promising Archbishop Evgenios of Crete and the Governor of Crete Mr. Stavros Arnaoutakis.
