Decisions announced by Holy & Sacred Synod of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem
Days after the Patriarchate of Jerusalem demanded that members of the extremist settlers’ group Ateret Cohanim abandon their illegal seizure of the Patriarchate-owned Little Petra Hotel, in the Christian Quarter of Jerusalem, members of the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem convened on Wednesday, under the chairmanship of His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos III.
Decisions announced by the Holy and Sacred Synod included the appointment of the Exarch of the Holy Sepulcher in Constantinople, Archbishop Nektarios, as a member of the ecclesiastical body, in recognition of his dedicated ministry and successful support of the properties and other rights of the Jerusalem Patriarchate in Constantinople and the isle of Halki.
Additionally, the Holy and Sacred Synod appointed Metropolitan Joachim of Helenoupolis as the Hegoumen, or abbot, of the Shrine of the Tomb of the Theotokos in Gethsemane.
