Cretans and Pontians “came together” in commemorations, Metamorfosi, Attica

Pontus and Crete “met” at the war memorial in Metamorfosi Attica, in the events of honour and memory for the victims of the Pontic Hellenic Genocide and for those who fell during the Battle of Crete. In an emotional coming together, members of the cultural associations showed that they do not forget the past and their ancestors.

As part of the anniversary events, which began with a memorial service at the Holy Church of the Transfiguration of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, the members of the Pontian Association of Metamorfosi “The Black Sea” and those of the Union of Cretans of Metamorfosi “The Great Island”, paid tribute to the hundreds of thousands of people who lost their lives.

One hundred and four years since the Pontian Genocide and 82 years since the Battle of the Cretans against the German Nazis, the younger generations still remember, are moved and learn valuable lessons.

After the laying of wreaths, Cretans and Pontians danced to the sounds of the Metamorfosi Municipality Philharmonic band and exchanged local delicacies with each other and with all those present.
