Commemorative Events held by the Pan-Macedonian Association of NSW for the Battle of Vevi

The Pan-Macedonian Association of NSW is honoured to extend an invitation to a significant weekend of events to be held on April 5th and 6th, 2025, commemorating the heroic efforts of Greek and ANZAC troops during the Battle of Vevi (April 11–12, 1941), a tribute of bravery and sacrifice demonstrated by the troops on Greece’s northern borders.

To mark this historic event, The Pan-Macedonian Association of NSW are privileged to host Mr. Jim Claven, OAM (Monash University), as keynote speaker at the Commemoration Ceremony. Mr. Claven is a distinguished historian, researcher, and author of many publications on the Hellenic link to Anzac, including Lemnos & Gallipoli Revealed (1915–1916) and Grecian Adventure – Anzac Trail Stories and Photographs (Greece 1941), among others, and associate producer of our featured documentary ANZAC: The Greek Chapter. After the film screening, Mr. Claven will also participate in a brief Q&A session.

Firstly, on the evening of Saturday, 5th April 5th, an exclusive private screening of ANZAC: The Greek Chapter (90 minutes) will be held, generously provided by Mr. Claven and his team. This film includes interviews with veterans of the 1941 Vevi campaign as well as archival footage covering the Greek mainland and Crete campaigns. Due to limited seating capacity, the Association kindly request attendees RSVP at the earliest convenience.

Secondly, the Commemoration Ceremony will take place on Sunday, 6th April. It will provide an opportunity to honour the courage and legacy of those who fought at the Battle of Vevi and acknowledge the long-standing historical connection between Australia, New Zealand, and Greece. Should there be significant interest, a subsequent documentary screening may be arranged later in the year.
