Classes for All Ages by the School of Byzantine Music in 2025 in Sydney

The School of Byzantine Music of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia offers both young and old the opportunity to be introduced to the sacred art of ecclesiastical Byzantine music, which, according to St. John Chrysostom, “seems to charm the ear, but in truth, awakens the soul.”

With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, the New South Wales branch of the school, based in Sydney, is preparing for the 2025 academic year, during which it will offer Byzantine music lessons: a) for boys and girls aged 8 to 15, and b) for youth aged 16 and older, as well as adults.

It is noted that classes for children are free of charge, and lessons will be held at the Cathedral of the Annunciation in Redfern and the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Kogarah. Interested parents can obtain more information by contacting the School administrators via email at [email protected] or by filling out the relevant expression of interest form at: Interest Form.

Regarding the classes for youth aged 16+ and adults, lessons will be held at the premises of St Andrew’s Theological College in Redfern and at the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Kogarah. For more information, interested individuals can contact Fr Anastasios Kalogerakis via email at [email protected] or by phone at 9549 3100 during business hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For both programs, the deadline for expressions of interest is the end of February 2025, while lessons for the new academic year will commence in early March.
