Church of Albania calls for ceasefire in Aleppo, Syria

The Church of Albania issued a statement expressing deep concern over the ongoing events in Syria, particularly in Aleppo and the surrounding areas, highlighting the grave danger faced by Orthodox Christians in the region.

The statement emphasised that the recent attacks jeopardise the lives of thousands of Orthodox Christians and threaten the historic presence of the Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch, as well as the broader Christian heritage in the Middle East.

“The devastating attacks in Aleppo and its surrounding areas place thousands of Orthodox Christians at immediate risk, endangering the historic continuity of the Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch and the Christian presence in the Middle East. Religious violence and the desecration of sacred places are profound wounds to Orthodoxy and a deep affront to human civilization.

Deeply sharing the anguish of our persecuted brethren, we unite our prayers with those of the God of peace, while urgently calling on the international community to take swift and decisive action to halt the deadly attacks in this long-suffering region,” the statement concluded.
