Bishop Bartholomew of Brisbane visits the Gallipoli Barracks in Brisbane

His Grace Bishop Bartholomew of Brisbane, together with Father Athanasios Athanasiadis from the Parish of Saint Paraskevi in Brisbane, visited the Gallipoli Barracks in the Capital City of Queensland, which is one of Australia’s largest military bases. The units include armoured, artillery, engineer, medical, signals, infantry and other combat service support units.

Following a tour of the chaplaincy building and chapel, His Grace discussed with the various chaplains of the military base the opportunity for the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia to be included amongst the other religious traditions that offer chaplaincy ministry within the base.

Furthermore His Grace thanked the chaplains for allowing an Orthodox icon to be placed in the chapel and invited the chaplaincy department to the headquarters of the Holy Diocese of Brisbane for a meeting and a Church tour of the Parish of Saint Paraskevi which is adjacent to the Diocese Offices.

Finally, Bishop Bartholomew conveyed the sincere respect of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia and thanked the military chaplains for their service.
