Arta honours the memory of Saint Theodora, its Patron Saint
With the proper ecclesiastical order, on Saturday, 11 March 2023, in the morning, in Arta, the memory of its Protectress and Patron Saint, Saint Theodora, was celebrated.
The Divine Liturgy was co-celebrated by His Eminence former Metropolitan Ignatius of Arta, His Eminence Metropolitan Athanasios of Sisanion and Siatista and His Eminence Metropolitan Kallinikos of Arta.
The Homily for the feast day was given by Archimandrite Nektatios Kontos, who referred to the great personality of Saint Theodora, who is a signpost of spiritual progress for the people of our decadent times.
At the end of the Divine Liturgy, His Eminence Metropolitan Kallinikos of Arta, tonsured Father Theodoros Gotsis as a Spiritual Father – Confessor, who is in charge of the Spiritual Centre “Saint John the Theologian” of the Holy Metropolis of Arta.
This was followed by a procession of the Holy Icon of the Saint, as well as her graceful Relics, through the main streets of the city, for the blessing and sanctification of the residents and pilgrims.
Devout Christians participated in the Divine Liturgy, but also in the procession, in order to receive the grace of Saint Theodora.
His Eminence Metropolian Kallinikos wholeheartedly thanked Former Metropolitan Ignatios of Arta and Metropolitan Athanasios of Sisanion and Siatista, the officials, as well as the faithful, who participated in the celebration. And he prayed that Saint Theodora would comfort the hearts of the families who suffered losses in the recent Tempe train accident and that God would rest the souls of the victims.
The Greek Government was represented by the Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food, Mr. Georgios Stylios, while representatives of parties of the Parliament, the Local Government, the Armed Forces, the Security Forces and other official bodies were present.
