Archdiocese of Athens holds Vasilopita cutting ceremony with President of Hellenic Republic
The Archdiocese of Athens celebrated the annual New Year’s Vasilopita cutting ceremony with great splendour on New Year’s Eve at the Holy Cathedral of Athens. The event was attended by Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou, government ministers, representatives of the political leadership, and numerous metropolitans.
Among the attendees were the Regional Governor of Attica, Nikos Hardalias, and the Mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas. President Sakellaropoulou’s presence highlighted the importance of collaboration between the Church and the State as Greece embarks on the New Year.
The Vasilopita was blessed by His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece, who earlier in the day had also officiated the blessing of the traditional Vasilopita in the Grand Synod Hall of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece.
In the speeches that followed, emphasis was placed on the importance of unity and solidarity in facing the challenges of the upcoming year.
