Archbishop of Albania: His condition remains critical

Since last Tuesday, the doctors in the intensive care unit (ICU) of Athens’ “Evangelismos” hospital have been working with great difficulty, steadily and carefully, to gradually awaken Archbishop Anastasios of Albania, who remains in a particularly critical condition in the ICU.

According to Parapolitika, the process of gradually awakening Archbishop Anastasios has not yet provided much optimism for its successful completion or for his eventual de-intubation. However, the ICU’s dedicated doctors and nurses continue their tireless efforts to stabilise the Archbishop’s health. Unfortunately, his body has not yet shown the desired signs of responding to the medical interventions.

Finally, it is noted that Archbishop Anastasios of Albania is facing severe issues with several of his vital organs.

The health condition of Archbishop Anastasios of Albania remains critical, as reported by Ta Nea, 19 days after his admission to Evangelismos Hospital in Athens.

The 95-year-old Archbishop is currently intubated and being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital. Despite the continuous efforts of the attending physicians to gradually wake him up, this goal has not yet been achieved.

Nine days after undergoing surgery to address bleeding in the lower digestive tract, the Archbishop’s condition shows no significant improvement. The treating doctors are working tirelessly, but the situation remains extremely concerning.

Each passing hour without a positive development further underscores the critical nature of his health.

Airlifted from Tirana

On 3 January 2025, His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios of Albania was airlifted from a hospital in Tirana after suffering from digestive system bleeding while already being treated for a respiratory infection.

His condition is further complicated by his medical history and advanced age. He remains under close observation by the hospital’s medical team, undergoing necessary medical examinations and receiving appropriate care.
