Archbishop Makarios of Australia visits Tasmania bringing joyful news to the island’s Greek Orthodox flock
His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia is currently conducting a visit to the island State of Tasmania, in order to communicate and engage with the Greek Orthodox flock of the island, and to support them spiritually and to demonstrate practically the concern of the Holy Archdiocese for the needs of Hellenism in every corner of the Australian territory.
On Saturday, 18 November 2023, His Eminence, who is joined by His Grace Bishop Bartholomew of Charioupolis, visited the two Greek Orthodox churches in the capital of Tasmania, Hobart, and in the afternoon officiated at the Vespers Service, at the Church of Saint George.
The faithful welcomed their Shepherd with feelings of filial respect, joy and emotion. In fact, their joy and emotion peaked when they heard from the Archbishop the cheerful message of the imminent visit of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew to Tasmania. It is recalled that His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew will visit Australia in 2024, on the occasion of the celebration of the centenary of the local Church, and, as announced by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios, one of the destinations of the Patriarchal visit will be the remote island of the country, Tasmania.
