Archbishop Ieronymos performs Sanctification Service for new Academic Year at the University of Athens

His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece presided over the sanctification service marking the start of the new academic year this morning at the University of Athens headquarters.

The service was attended by the University Rector, Prof. Gerasimos Siasos, the Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Lifelong Learning, Associate Prof. Christos Karagiannis, and high-ranking officials including Nikos Papaioannou, Secretary General of the Ministry of Education, representing Greek Minister of Education Kyriakos Pierrakakis. Professors and staff of the University were also present.

Accompanied by Archimandrite Varnavas Theocharis, Protosyncellus of the Archdiocese of Athens, Archbishop Ieronymos was warmly welcomed by Rector Mr. Siasos and Vice Rector Mr. Karagiannis.

In his address following the service, the Archbishop extended wishes for both spiritual and physical health to all, emphasising the importance of courage and perseverance during challenging times. Reflecting on his past experience as a teacher, he encouraged overcoming difficulties through patience and dedication.

The Rector expressed gratitude to the Archbishop, the Secretary General, and the Professors, and offered best wishes for the new academic year. Mr. Nikos Papaioannou also extended good wishes for the upcoming year and conveyed the Minister of Education’s greetings.
