Archbishop Anastasios in critical condition, prayers intensify across Albania
By Fr. Elias Makos
While the condition of His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios of Albania, who has been hospitalised for 20 days in the intensive care unit of Evangelismos Hospital, remains critical, the latest updates indicate that despite the doctors’ efforts, no awakening has been achieved.
As medical teams continue their “battle,” the Orthodox faithful of Albania have intensified their prayers, holding Divine Liturgies, supplications to the Virgin Mary, and Holy Unction services in churches across the country.
Many young people also participate, feeling the Archbishop as a loving and hopeful father figure.
Orthodox and non-Orthodox alike in Albania, as well as officials, remain constantly updated on the Archbishop’s health, sharing their concern and anxiety.
Albanian media—including television, radio, websites, and online platforms—frequently report on the Archbishop’s condition, reflecting the widespread interest in his person, even in a multi-religious society.
This interest is neither accidental nor circumstantial. It stems from the fact that Anastasios weaves, through the broad horizons of his soul, a “communion” of other souls.
His welcoming attitude towards all fosters understanding, tolerance, respect, and acceptance, serving as a profound response to the challenges of modern times.
