ANNOUNCEMENT
The work of the Holy Eparchial Synod of the Archdiocese of Australia, which met in Sydney from 17 to 19 January 2025, under the Presidency of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, has been completed.
According to the announcement, the members of the Holy Eparchial Synod had the opportunity to participate in the festive Vespers which took place on 18 January and to concelebrate at the Synodal Divine Liturgy of Sunday, 19 January, on the occasion of the feast day of Saint Makarios the Great. The Divine Liturgy took place and was presided over by the celebrating Archbishop in the Cathedral of Sydney. Their Graces the Bishops, the members of the Holy Eparchial Synod, cordially wished “many years” to the President of the Eparchial Synod, demonstrating once again their gratitude and respect for him.
The Holy Synod, during its sessions which took place on the previous two days, 17th and 18th January, thoroughly examined the items on the Agenda and made the necessary and appropriate decisions.
Among other matters, it was unanimously decided to grant the requested canonical permission, from the Holy Eparchial Synod, to Mr. Angelo Karantonis, Mr. Ioannis Psarommatis, Mr. Steve Magdas, Mr. Nikolaos Augustinos and Mr. Ioannis Demetriou to preach the Holy Sermon in Churches, during the Divine Liturgy and other Services and ceremonies.
It was also determined that the 2nd Pan-Australian Clergy Synaxis of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia will be held in Sydney from 29 September to 1 October 2025, with the general theme “Social Media and the Priesthood”.
At the conclusion of the work of the Holy Eparchial Synod and on the occasion of the Archbishop’s departure to Cuba, in order to represent His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the Mother Church of Constantinople at the anniversary events for the completion of twenty years since the Consecration of the Church of Saint Nicholas in Havana, the Holy Synod extended its heartfelt wishes to His Eminence Archbishop Makarios for success in this important ecclesiastical mission.
