Anniversary events for the celebration of the centenary of the Metropolis of Philippi at the Theological School of Halki
On Wednesday, 4 September 2024, with the esteemed presence of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, the anniversary events organised by the Holy Metropolis of Philippi, Neapolis and Thasos took place at the premises of the Theological School of Halki, on the occasion of the centenary of its foundation.
Welcoming the participants, the Abbot of the Monastery of the Holy Trinity, His Grace Bishop Kassianos of Aravissos, referred to the relationship of the Theological School with the Province of Philippi and its first two Metropolitans, who were graduates of the school. Then, His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew announced the opening of a scientific conference for this historic anniversary, referring to the foundation and history of the Holy Metropolis of Philippi. The relevant presentations followed, while the closing speech was delivered by His Eminence Metropolitan Stephanos of Philippi.
The conference was preceded by a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, presided over by Metropolitan Stephanos, who also performed a Trisagion memorial service for the repose of his blessed predecessors and the graduates of the Theological School from Kavala.
Among the attendees were the following Hierarchs, Their Eminences: Metropolitan Maximos of Selyvria, Metropolitan Nektarios of Anthedon Commissioner of the Holy Sepulchre in Constantinople, Metropolitan Apostolos of Miletus, Metropolitan Meliton of Philadelphia, Metropolitan Stephanos of Kallioupolis, Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, Metropolitan Bartholomew of Smyrna, Metropolitan Ioakeim of Bursa, Metropolitan Iakovos of Mexico, clergy and monks from the Metropolis of Philippi, His Excellency Ambassador Konstantinos Koutras, Consul General of Greece in Constantinople, former Minister G. Kalantzis, the Regional Governor of Macedonia, the Mayor of Kavala, Greek MPs, Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, and numerous residents from Kavala, Constantinople, and the Princes’ Islands.
The festivities concluded with a celebratory feast, blessed by His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
