A year-long theme dedicated to the Virgin Mary was launched by Saint John’s College in Melbourne

In accordance with their Orthodox Christian values and in the true spirit of Hellenism, St John’s College is pleased to announce that they are launching a yearlong theme dedicated to the Virgin Mary, the Theotokos.

On Monday, 14 August 2023, the day in which His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia visited the facilities of the College and officiated at the Supplicatory Canon to the Theotokos, after the conclusion of the Service, members of the College Board addressed all in attendance, highlighting the significance and importance to the students and the wider community, of the person of the Most Holy Mother of God, the Theotokos.

During the launch of the aforementioned theme, the students of the College’s kindergarten celebrated and participated in the activity called “Panagia with Mum”, which included classroom activities related to the person of the Virgin Mary, as well as an afternoon tea in honour of their mothers and grandmothers.

The students of Saint John’s College, Preston,  will continue to develop their knowledge and understanding of the significance of the Theotokos in our lives, and throughout the Church. Across all year levels, students will have the opportunity to learn more through excursions and incursions. The College will also be transformed with Icons of our Most Holy Lady, featuring qualities and words that represent the honour and respect shown to her.
