A special event at Panagia Paramythia Vlach Saray, in Constantinople
On Saturday, 18 January 2025, at the premises of the Church of Panagia Paramythia Vlach Saray, art historian Mr. Hayri Fehmi Yilmaz gave a lecture on the topic: “Konstantiniyye Mescidi (Constantinople Mosque), the history of the Islamic house of worship in the Byzantine capital”.
The distinguished speaker was introduced by the President of the Community’s Board of Trustees, Mr. Lakis Vigas, Archon Grand Hartofylax of the Great Church of Christ. The speaker is a distinguished historian and teaches Byzantine history at Mimar Sinan University.
The event was attended by His Eminence Elder Metropolitan Apostolos of Derkoi, the Grand Protosyncellus of the Patriarchate, Archimandrite Grigorios, the Archon Hieromnimon, Mr. Antonios Hatzopoulos, academics, architects, tour guides and many people.
At the end, Elder Metropolitan Apostolos of Derkoi blessed and cut the Community’s Vasilopita and the coin was found in the piece cut for the Church of Panagia Paramythia. All those present took a piece of Vasilopita, while Archon Lakis Vigas explained the relevant tradition.
