A musical event “Nichori of the Bosphorus” in Thessaloniki honouring Zaharias o Hanentes
On the 27th of May, the concert entitled “The Neochorite Hanentes Zacharias” took place with great success at the Yeni Mosque in Thessaloniki. The event was co-organized by the Community of Neochorio of the Bosphorus, the Department of Music Studies of the AUTH and the association “Union of Expatriates from Constantinople of Northern Greece”, in collaboration with the Ephorate of Antiquities of the City of Thessaloniki, and was held under the auspices of the Municipality of Thessaloniki.
In his greeting, the President of the “Association of Expatriates from Constantinople of Northern Greece” Mr. Polybios Strandzalis emphasised: “The initiative of Archon Grand Hartofylakas of the Great Church of Christ and the former President of the Neochorio Community, Mr. Laki Vigas, to visit Thessaloniki with other fellow citizens of Constantinople and to present this concert by excellent musicians, it filled us with great joy and excitement. The culture that the Romans of Constantinople produced and still produce today in various fields, is very large and known to many of us. We especially thank them for giving us this opportunity.”
The event was graced by the presence of the representative of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, Archimandrite of the Ecumenical Throne Nektarios Paris, Professor of Music at the University of Macedonia, His Grace Bishop Nikephoros of Amoria, the Mayor of Thessaloniki Mr. Konstantinos Zervas, the Mayor of Kalamaria, Mr. Yiannis Dardamanelis, the representative of the Commander of the 3rd Army Corps, Colonel Panagiotis Antonopoulos, the Director of Secondary Education of Western Thessaloniki, Mr. Christos Roubidis, the representative of the Imbrian Union of Macedonia and Thrace, Mr. Georgios Christoforidis, the representative of the Ephorate of Antiquities of the City of Thessaloniki, Ms. Flora Karagianni, the President of the Mt Athos Estia, Mr. Anastasios Douros, while Manolis Minaoglou addressed a greeting on behalf of the Neochorio Community. Yvonne Viga also spoke from Nichori.
Decisive in the realisation of the event was the contribution of the Professor of the Department of Music Studies of the School of Fine Arts of the AUTH, Mr. Emmanuel Giannopoulos.
