A Delegation of Parliamentarians from Greece to attend the Greek National Day Parade in Melbourne
The Victorian Council for Greek National Day wishes to make it known to the Greeks of Melbourne that this year’s parade for the Anniversary of the Greek Revolution of 1821 will be celebrated with the presence of a group of Parliamentarians, members of the Inter-Parliamentary Committee of Greeks Abroad, representing the Hellenic Parliament.
The group of the Members of Parliament consists of Mr. Konstantinos Vlasis, Member of Parliament for Arcadia and former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Greeks Abroad, Ms. Theodora Tzakri, Member of Parliament for Pelli of the SYRIZA parliamentary party, First Vice-President of the Committee of Greeks of the Diaspora, Mrs. Evangelia Liakouli, Member of Parliament for Larisa from the PASOK – Movement for change party, Second Vice-President of the Committee of Greeks of the Diaspora, and Ms. Asimina Skondra, Member of Parliament for Karditsa of the New Democracy party, Member of the Diaspora Committee.
Also, this year’s parade will be honoured with the presence of the Ambassador of Greece to Australia, His Excellency Mr. Stavros Venizelos, and the High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Antonios Sammoutis.
During their five-day visit, the Members of Parliament will have official meetings with Church, Consular, Political and Greek Community Leaders.
The President of the Victorian Council, Mr. Tony Tsourdalakis, expresses his warm thanks to the President of the Hellenic Parliament, Mr. Konstantinos Tassoulas, for the acceptance of the invitation and the sending of a four-member delegation, which will honour the Greeks of Melbourne with their presence and the Anniversary of our National Day.
The parade will take place on Sunday, 14 April 2024, at 1:00 p.m., at the Lakeside Stadium at 33 Aughtie Drive in the suburb of Albert Park, with over 70 groups participating.
The President of the Victorian Council, Mr. Tony Tsourdalakis, also wishes to expresses his warm thanks to the sponsors of the parade, the company ‘Directed Group’ of the family of Stavros Siolis, the company ‘ASA Building Consultants’ of the family of Athanasios Liakopoulos and ‘ADK Insurance Brokers’ of the families of Nikos Kanelakos and Kostas Dimitriou.
The Victorian Council for Greek National Day is looking for volunteers to offer their time and help on the day of the parade. Those interested in participating are kindly requested to email: [email protected]. A basic condition for those interested in participating is to have a Working with Children Check, as well as to attend a special information meeting.
