The Greek Language and Culture Institute (GLCI) of Evangelismos in Perth Celebrated Greek Independence Day

The Greek Language and Culture Institute (GLCI) of Evangelismos in the Diocese of Perth celebrated Greek National Day on Saturday the 29th of March at the North Perth Primary School.

It was truly an emotional and memorable day for the GLCI of Evangelismos community as it was an opportunity to showcase their students amazing hard work and dedication.

In attendance was His Grace Bishop Elpidios of Perth, the Consul of Greece in Perth, Mrs. Eleni Georgopoulou and Mr Frank Paolino, MP for Mount Lawley and newly elected representative of the Labour Party.

His Grace spoke briefly about the double celebrations of 25th March and conveyed to all the paternal love and blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia.

The purpose of the Institute is the teaching of the Greek language and culture, with the use of innovative and current teaching/learning approaches, strategies, and technologies, to those students interested in retaining or finding their Greek identity.

A number of the school’s older students  will also be taking part this year in the annual Centre for the Greek Language (CGL) examinations at the various levels on offer for the Certificate of Attainment in Greek; the only officially recognised certificate by the Greek Ministry of Education that confirms the knowledge of Greek as a second as well as a foreign language.

During the previous 3 years, the consistent success of the school’s students at all exam levels ranging from A1 to C1 has filled the local Greek community of Perth with great pride.
