Announcement from the Holy Eparchial Synod of the Archdiocese of Australia
The Holy Eparchial Synod of the Archdiocese of Australia convened on Friday, 17 January 2025, under the Presidency of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia.
After the opening prayer, the Minutes of the previous Session were ratified and, subsequently, the Holy Synod proceeded to examine the items included in the Agenda and made the necessary and appropriate decisions.
During the proceedings of the Synod, at the suggestion of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, His Eminence Metropolitan Iakovos of Ireland, who is currently visiting the fifth Continent, was honoured with the Medal of the Order of the Christ-Loving of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia. After thanking His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia and Their Graces the Bishops for the honour bestowed upon him, he had the opportunity to inform the Holy Synod about the efforts in establishing the newly formed Holy Metropolis of Ireland.
During the work of the Holy Synod, the “Special Regulation for the compilation of the list of those eligible for the Episcopacy” was studied and unanimously approved, which is being submitted, through the Archbishop, to the Ecumenical Patriarchate for final approval.
Among other items of the Agenda, the Holy Eparchial Synod, acting as a Synodal Court, reviewed the case of Deacon Mario Baghos and submitted its recommendations, as prescribed by the Holy Canons, to the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
The Holy Eparchial Synod will continue its work today, Saturday, 18 January 2025.
