A week of Ordinations in the Diocese of Malawi
With the blessings of His Beatitude Pope and Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria, a series of ordinations took place, marking a significant step in strengthening the clergy in the Diocese of Malawi. One Deacon was ordained as a Presbyter, while three Readers were ordained as Deacons and Presbyters.
The ordinations unfolded as follows:
- October 26, 2024: At the Church of St. Nektarios in Blantyre, Reader Basil was ordained as Deacon.
- November 2, 2024: At the Church of St. Catherine, Deacon Fr. Alexios was ordained as Presbyter, and Reader Nicholas was ordained a Deacon.
- November 3, 2024: At the Church of the Resurrection in Bayani, Deacon Nicholas was ordained as Presbyter, and Reader Gabriel was ordained as a Deacon.
- November 8, 2024: At the celebrating Church of the Archangels in Phalombe, Deacon Basil was ordained as a Presbyter, and Catechist Nektarios was tonsured to Reader.
- November 10, 2024: On the feast of Saint Arsenios of Cappadocia, Deacon Gabriel was ordained a Presbyter.
The ordinations were not only a testament to the growth of the Orthodox Church in the region but also a response to the pressing pastoral needs of the local community.
The contribution of Archimandrite Fr. Ioannikios from the Metropolis of Florina was particularly significant. With the permission of Metropolitan Irenaeus of Florina, Fr. Ioannikios offered his invaluable support to the Diocese, which is in great need of clergy to sustain its spiritual and pastoral mission.
These ordinations mark a new chapter for the Diocese, reinforcing its capacity to serve the faithful and expand its missionary efforts in the region.
