Brisbane: Tribute to the heroes of 1940 at the Parish of the Dormition of Our Lady, Mt Gravatt
With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, His Grace Bishop Bartholomew of Brisbane, officiated during the Matins Service and presided over the Divine Liturgy at the Church of the Dormition of Our Lady in Mt Gravatt, Brisbane, and was joined by Father Panagiotis Simos.
After the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, His Grace conducted a memorial service for the repose of the souls of all those who fought for faith and country during the Epic of 1940, which was followed by the laying of wreaths.
The Honorary Consul General of Greece in Queensland, Mr. George Mastrocostas, the Presidents of the Parishes and Communities of Queensland, as well as presidents and representatives of the local Greek Associations and Organisations were also present.
Afterwards, in the adjacent parish hall, His Grace Bishop Bartholomew addressed the audience, conveying to them the love and blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia. The Honorary Consul General of Greece in Queensland, Mr. Mastrocostas also delivered a commemorative greeting. Then traditional Greek dances were presented by the parish dance group.
