The Feast Day of the Holy Monastery of Saint David the Elder in Evia
Over the two days, 31 October and 1 November 2024, the memory of Saint David the Elder was celebrated at the Holy Monastery founded by him, in Limni of North Evia.
This year’s feast day was attended by His Eminence Metropolitan Nikiforos of Gortyna and Megalopolis, His Grace Bishop Nikodimos of Skopelos, and the local Shepherd, His Eminence Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Chalkida.
At the Great Vespers on the eve of the Feast Day, His Grace Bishop Nikodimos of Skopelos, officiated, who, preaching the holy sermon with reference to the Church’s teaching on sacred icons, reminded that people are images of God and emphasised the way in which we should interact and participate in divine worship.
On the main day of the Feast, His Eminence Metropolitan Nikiforos of Gortyna and Megalopolis officiated during the matins service, and presided over the hierarchical Divine Liturgy and preached the holy sermon, referring to the upbringing of children, giving prompts and messages, so that we may work for the common good and the progress of society.
Together with the hundreds of pilgrims, His Grace Bishop Pagkratios of Arsinoe, from the Church of Cyprus, the Head of the Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis, distinguished Archons and representatives of the local law enforcement, were also present for the Divine Liturgy.
All the pilgrims had the blessing, after their participation in the holy services, to enjoy the Abrahamic hospitality of the Abbot of the Holy Monastery, Archimandrite Gabriel Emmanouilidis, the brotherhood and the multitude of tireless volunteers of the Monastery.
