On Sunday, 27 October 2024, a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the Community Church of Saint Alexander in Lusaka, officiated by His Eminence Metropolitan Ioannis of Zambia.
The Metropolitan also conducted a Doxology for the Anniversary of ‘Oxi Day’, which was followed by a school celebration.
In attendance were the Consul General of Greece in Zambia, M. Kroupnik, the President of the Community, Liakopoulos, and the new educator, Ms. Rania Tsirigoti.
A wreath-laying ceremony then took place at the memorial of the Greek Community’s fallen.
Subsequently, a celebratory gathering was held at the Metropolitan residence, featuring Greek cuisine and traditional music.
A warm welcome was extended to the new teacher, with wishes for a good start and strength in her work.
The new educator is tasked with taking on a significant role in the newly established Chair of Hellenic Studies at the University of Zambia, in collaboration with the Ionian University, which has been formalised through a relevant memorandum.
Additionally, Ms. Tsirigoti will be undertaking systematic and interactive work at the Mission School in Lusaka, which she will be managing on weekends.
