Divine Liturgy held at the Chapel of Panagia Myrtidiotissa in Wangaratta, Victoria
His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Chora, who was joined by clergy from the local Holy Diocese, visited the city of Wangaratta in Victoria and conducted the Divine Liturgy on the occasion of the Feast of Our Lady of Myrtles (Panagia Myrtidiotissa) at the Holy Chapel of Panagia Myrtidiotissa.
Crowds of faithful believers from the local community, as well as pilgrims who made their way by bus from Melbourne, took part in the celebrations in honour of the Theotokos, who is honoured with the venerable sobriquet of Myrtidiotissa.
During the Divine Liturgy, Bishop Evmenios spoke about the central role that the Virgin Mary plays in the life of Orthodox Christians. He emphasised that the Mother of God has a living and active presence in our lives, as she constantly intercedes for the faithful and leads them to Christ. Drawing inspiration from the history of the miraculous icon of Panagia Myrtidiotissa, His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Chora reminded the congregation that the love and care of Panagia embraces all those who ask for her protection.
Also, His Grace conveyed the paternal blessings and wishes of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, underlining the spiritual leadership and continuous support of the Archbishop to all the faithful of the Holy Diocese of Chora.
Finally, Bishop Evmenios expressed his deep gratitude for the opportunity given to him to visit the Chapel of Panagia Myrtidiotissa, while he paid tribute to the late Mrs. Jan, a devoted woman who for more than twenty years took care of the Chapel. Her humble offering and her devotion were honoured with a special memorial service during the Divine Liturgy.
The day ended with a feeling of spiritual renewal and unity as the faithful, both from the local community and from Melbourne, expressed their thanks for the blessings of the Virgin Mary and the continued growth of the local Orthodox community.
