Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew departs for visit to Greece
His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew departed on Thursday, 19 September 2024, from his headquarters in Constantinople for a multi-day visit to Greece.
During this visit, he will attend various events and visit the Metropolises of Polyani and Kilkis, Thessaloniki, and Nea Smyrni. In the capital city of Athens, His All-Holiness will also participate in and address the Panimbrian Conference, as well as attend a concert at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus to support schools in his native Imbros.
The Patriarch’s entourage includes Their Eminences, Metropolitan Bartholomew of Smyrna and Metropolitan Dorotheos of Drama, the Grand Ecclesiarch Archimandrite Aetios, Director of the Personal Patriarchal Office; Deacon Oikoumenios Amanatidis, Secretary of the Holy and Sacred Synod; and Patriarchal Deacon Barnabas. Also accompanying him are Mr. Nikolaos-George Papachristou, Director of the Press and Communication Office of the Ecumenical Patriarch, and Mr. Panagiotis Grafiadelis, a Patriarchal staff member.
During the Patriarch’s absence, His Eminence Elder Metropolitan Apostolos of Derkoi has been appointed as the locum tenens Patriarchal Commissioner. He, along with Chief Secretary Archimandrite Gregorios, accompanied the Patriarch to the city’s airport.
