Perth: Sunday after the Feast Day of the Dormition
The great feast of the Dormition of the Holy Theotokos continued to be celebrated in the Diocese of Perth on Sunday the 18th of August 2024.
The day commenced with the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at the Church of the Annunciation and was officiated by His Grace Bishop Elpidios of Perth.
During the service, His Grace in his sermon focused on two essential points that were emphasised in the scriptural readings of the day. The first point, as stated by Saint Paul in his epistle to the Corinthians, included the importance of unity and how the faithful should avoid dissensions and divisions in the Church but instead must be united in and around Christ.
The second point which was taken from the Gospel of Matthew, reminded all how although Australia is one of the richest countries in the world, it does not give us the right to dispose of the leftovers, but instead absolute respect must be shown to all of God’s earthly goods.
Following the Divine Liturgy the parish had organised a delicious luncheon for the Feast of the Dormition in the church hall.
