Melbourne: The funeral service for the late Father Constantinos Thermos to take place on Tuesday, 9 July

On Friday, 21 June 2024, the Late Father Constantinos Thermos, Presbyter of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia fell asleep in the Lord.

The late clergyman was born in Vavkeri, Lefkada, in the year 1940. In 1958 he went to the island of Halki of the Princes’ Islands to study the Sacred Science of Theology at the historic Theological School of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. After completing his theological studies, with honours, he immigrated to Australia to serve the expatriate Greeks at the side of the late Archbishop Ezekiel of Australia.

He was ordained Deacon and Presbyter in 1962, by Archbishop Ezekiel, who assigned him the mission of founding a new Greek Orthodox parish in Richmond, Melbourne, dedicated to the Holy Trinity. Possessed with holy zeal, he carried out this mission and served the parishioners of the Holy Trinity Parish for many years, with devotion and self-sacrifice. With the same mindset, he served in other parishes of the Holy Archdiocese in Melbourne, in the last years of his earthly life.

It is noted that the Late Father Constantinos had met and was closely connected with Elder Amfilochios Makris, of the Holy Island of Patmos, who was ranked among the Saints of the Orthodox Church in 2018, by the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. His parishioners were blessed to hear him often recount his spiritual experiences from his friendship with Saint Amfilochios.

His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia expressed the condolences of the entire local Church to Presvytera Marina, their three children and the other relatives of the Late Father Constantinos, while in his condolence statement he mentions: “We say goodbye to Fr. Constantinos with great emotion and with feelings of sorrow. As people, we are certainly saddened because a very worthy and virtuous clergyman, whose love for the Church was exemplary, left us. Father Constantinos, as a tireless worker in the Lord’s vineyard here in Australia, ministered to the people entrusted to him by the Church with conscientiousness, ecclesiastical ethos and above all with a lot of love. That is why he was loved by our people. His loss may cause us pain and sadness, but our souls are at rest from the thought that Fr. Constantinos is walking the blessed path of eternity, “where there is no pain, no sorrow, no sighing”.

The Funeral Service for the Late Father Constantinos Thermos will be held at the Church of the Presentation of Our Lady to The Temple, in North Balwyn, Melbourne, according to the following program:
