Catechetical visit to Ecumenical Patriarch by the Holy Metropolis of Derkoi
On Saturday, 25 May 2024, the Catechetical team from the Holy Metropolis of Derkoi visited His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. Led by His Eminence Elder Metropolitan Apostolos of Derkoi, children, youth, and their parents paid their respects to the Patriarch to mark the end of their lessons.
The Metropolitan, visibly excited about the future of the Greek Diaspora, presented the catechetical work of the Holy Metropolis. Following his presentation, parents spoke on behalf of the children and youth. The Ecumenical Patriarch praised the efforts of the Metropolis, describing the Metropolitan and his associates as worthy stewards of the region’s morals, customs, and traditions.
In support of the project, the Ecumenical Patriarch emphasised the importance of engaging with children and young people, and learning the Greek language, countering the view that these activities are of secondary importance.
At the conclusion of the visit, the children presented a basket of traditional products to the Ecumenical Patriarch, who in turn distributed sweets and souvenirs to everyone. After their visit to the Patriarchate, the group visited the Holy Church of the Virgin Mary of Blachernae, traversing the alleys of the Phanar.
