Greek Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs affirms Government support for Greek Diaspora during visit to Chicago, USA
Greek Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Giorgos Kotsiras, highlighted the Government’s commitment to bolstering connections with the Greek Diaspora during his trip to Chicago.
Attending the Divine Liturgy at the Church of St. Demetrius in Elmhurst, Chicago, Kotsiras reiterated the Greek State’s backing for the efforts of the Metropolitan of Chicago and emphasised the top priority accorded by the government to matters concerning Greeks living abroad.
In a social media post, Mr. Kotsiras expressed his heartfelt joy at participating in the Divine Liturgy alongside numerous faithful worshippers.
Recognising the pivotal role of the Church in maintaining ties between the Diaspora and Greece, Mr. Kotsiras commended the significant contributions of the Holy Metropolis of Chicago, situated in an area with a rich historical presence of Hellenism.
He affirmed the unwavering support of the Greek State for the Metropolises of the Ecumenical Patriarchate worldwide. Following the Liturgy, Mr. Kotsiras conveyed to His Eminence Metropolitan Nathaniel of Chicago the government’s full endorsement of his work.
He also engaged in discussions with expatriates, addressing their concerns and informing them about recent initiatives undertaken by the Greek Government to strengthen its engagement with the global Hellenic community.
